A Designer’s Manifesto: Architecture, Design, Technology, and Katsy

First things first – thoughts on architecture

And then I shall come to you, a boundless drop to a boundless ocean. [1]
-taken from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran

This is quite lengthy so read, only if you must. :) This is an 11-page design manifesto we had to submit back in college. I thought of posting this so that I'll be able to compare it with the unwritten design manifesto in my current practice. Let's see how far we've come shall we?

One Off The Bucket

I tweeted this the day it came out: Before breaking the rules, master them.

Surreal. I even took a photo inside the van to document the moment that for many others may be common.

I never thought I'd get to see my name in print with something I wrote. I saw the article online first then finally in print at the Jollibee where we ate for breakfast so early in the morning for my architecture work. Yes, I do actually work as an architect even if the design tag in this blog remains to be used. I've thought of the perfect ice breaker for that tag though, let me just look for my college design manifesto. A trip down memory lane in terms of design outlook may be fitting at this point. In the meantime, here are the other (few) photos I took with my trusty E72 (that I used to take notes during the event, very handy!) at the Style Forum at the Style Souk, Style Origins 2012 at MarQuee Mall.

The stage is set..
The pretty Luanne Dy hosted - her outfit perfectly reflected what the Forum had to say.
Industry experts - Alyanna Martinez, Ann Jacobe, Lourd Ramos
A closer look; as close as what my E72 can offer ;)

Live from Windows Live Writer…

I actually have a ton of post ideas that I would love to do but sadly don’t have the time yet. I’m still trying to figure out how to optimize my current gadgets and work as efficiently as possible. My contact list has simply been begging for an overhaul but I’ve been postponing since I’ve been heavily thinking about getting a new phone. BUT. I cannot decide. I keep going back and forth and still have no final decision. I seriously want an Iphone4s because the Ipad2 has helped simplify my life a lot and integration between the two of them is absolutely optimized. (Not to mention the fact that I kind of don’t want to learn an entirely new operating system.) I do however still love the ease of the qwerty keypad of my E72 and the option for the BIS that accompanies the BB Storm. Which only means one thing – I cannot let go of my existing system even if it needs an upgrade. Anyway, enough smartphone talk; I know that is one issue I will not be able to address anytime soon. I do however, have to immediately address the chaos that is my contact list.

For now, let’s just see if this will post. It is after all the main goal of this whole entry.

Edited online: It posted twice. Haha. I had to delete the second entry online. So far the WLW interface looks pretty easy to use. Let's just see how it will work with photos in later updates. Let's also hope that I solve my phone issues sometime very soon.

Make Your Own Havaianas 2012

One of my best female friends got me to tag along with her last Wednesday for a special preview day of the Make Your Own Havaianas 2012 at the Rockwell Tent. MYOH is currently ongoing till May 14 so there's still time for all you Havaianas fanatics. Custom Havaianas, actually, custom anything is one of the best expressions ever of one's self. Design is love.

After the show. My PBB Unlimited Housemates collection. I'm supposed to have 4 but the picture with Carlo didn't turn out well. It was really blurred. This features also, Ye's picture for her Mom. Special thanks to my dress for being there when I had nothing to wear at the last minute.

Metrowear Rocks the Runway 2012. two

I saved this set for my favorite designer for the night - Veejay Floresca. I wish I could see his designs up close. Even my Mother knows him from his Project Runway Philippines days and still remembers him up to now. He makes an impression. And so does his designs. Which makes me wish I can have an outfit designed by him if only I had somewhere to wear it to. Well, that will all fall into place some time. For now, here are some shots of his collection with the most that me and my old and borrowed point and shoot digital camera can do:

And here's my companion for the night, Stef (aka Ye). Thanks in advance Ye for the next set of pictures also otherwise known as fangirl moment. LOL.

Metrowear Rocks the Runway 2012. one

I was fortunate enough to win 2 invites to Metrowear Rocks the Runway last May 2 from Metro Magazine's Twitter giveaway. (Yay for my rediscovered love for Twitter.) I had to send a photo of myself with the Metro May issue which is worth every penny except for the fact that if I wanted the Ipad edition, I would actually need to buy the magazine again. And I'm really loving my Ipad editions now. (Please stop me from buying all those magazines, apps, and ebooks. @_@) Anyway, here are some photos from the event. I may have to post three different entries just for this - one for fashion photos, two for favorite fashion photos and self-love, and three for my fangirl moment. LOL. We'll see how much I can manage. It was really nice to be able to do something outside of architecture for once as I've proven to myself how much of a workaholic I've been these past months. (You know you work too much when you're watching the Avengers and there's a really amazing fight scene and war on screen... And all you can think about is how easy they destroy a building when it takes so many people & a long period of time to design & construct.)

Anyway, on to the photos. Forgive me again for the quality as I used a point and shoot camera I borrowed from my Uncle. Yes, I still don't have a decent camera. I have been decided on getting either an Olympus TG-620 or TG-820 but the OM-D (and the PEN series) has got me pretty conflicted. They cost a lot for someone who uses automatic mode all the time. Not to mention the fact that my friends have been constantly advising me not to get a camera as they say that I have neither the patience or the skills to fully utilize such a gorgeously expensive and hi-tech camera. (Well, I may still prove you wrong by trying if I get an extra 70k cash in the air. Haha. I wish.) OK. Enough going off topic. But seriously, while I was taking these pictures, I really wished I had a better camera. The clothes were absolutely divine and I would have loved to capture at least some of their exquisite details. For now though, let us indulge in these snapshots of my one night of not working.

My hand got really shaky with this one. LOL.
